-35°C this morning, -31°F. But it’s scenes like this that keep me living here:
Went out for a 5k snowshoe last night in all the fresh snow. First one to break through that trail... So many trees came down under the wind and snow weight it was hard to get through some spots.
Believe it or not, this is the trail.
But as always it was worth it.
The forest is so quiet on these cold clear days. I love it, even if the sun does set early this time of year.
And of course don’t forget to plug the old girl in when you get home.
Strange to think the range of climate the MJ’s been through this year, from Death Valley’s oppressive heat to the lonely beauty of the frozen wastelands that aren’t really all that far North.

reminds me of when I worked for a test lab; we had environmental chambers which could go from -40 (doesn’t matter C or F there) to 85C/185F. When we had stuff in there testing at -40, sometimes we had to walk in to check something or free a stuck actuator. Your goddamn nose hairs freeze the instant you walk in.
but for the most part I’m with you. I like cold weather. I like snow. I like being able to come in out of the cold and bundle up under the covers and be warm. I like being able to take my winter-tire-shod 4x4 Ranger out in snow to play.

Coldest I remember seeing on a thermometer was -45°C. It usually doesn’t get down past the low 30's this far south, but there is the odd day.
When I got back in the truck last night the condensation frozen into in my beard and moustache was enough I couldn’t open my mouth far enough to sip my coffee. Just as well, it was cold.

Here in north western Quebec we get a few -45 before windchill during the winter. Houses crack and pop. Tires feel like squares.

Shit. I’m sitting outside smoking a cigar right now because it is 71F. Gonna be 75F on Wednesday.

Saskatchewan here, also cold. Not quite that cold, but was -27 when I came home at 4 pm. Never know what I’m working on or where until I arrive. I was so Happy that today’s customers and their 7 dasboards were all indoors.

-31 degrees F is 0C. Or am I misunderstanding you?
![]() 12/10/2016 at 18:13 |

I think you’re misunderstanding °C. 0°C is 32°F. -31°F is in fact -35°C.

You can keep that sweatbox.
I’ll stay here.

Mobile mechanic?
I pulled my Jeep’s dashboard at -25 once to fix the headlight wires after they set themselves on fire. It was not at all fun, even though I was out of the wind. I was living just outside of S’toon at the time. Now I’m in ‘Toba.

No sweating for the next four months at least. 60s-70s with single digit humidity. But come May, the sweating begins.

sort of. jack of all trades, but mechanic isn’t really one of them. I install gps and gps accessories in commercial and fleet vehicles. Was in downtown Manitoba last weekend, (Winnipeg, Starbuck) left monday and drove through the storm but beat the highway closure. Need to put a block heater on wife’s usa import ford, should have gotten around to it sooner.

3M super #33 tape is sticky in the minus 25.

Try doing any sort of physical thing at that temperature without sweating. Not gonna happen. Here? Just unzip your jacket.

I’ve seen a few people with new Fords here too that didn’t come with block heaters. Confuses the hell out of me.

I’ve been skiing but it’s so damn cold we only go up for about 2-3 hrs. Next week will be very cold too. We might get some of that arctic air spilling over the mountains and freezing the crap out of us.

Yeah, I definitely don’t sweat at 71F and 2% humidity. Maybe if I had a jacket on I would?

You should be more active then.

I couldn’t take too much -35 but I know where you’re coming from.
It’s like living in a Bob Ross painting sometimes.

-35C = NO WAY JOSE!

If it wasn’t so hot out you could step outside for some relief.

Does the block heater heat the oil in the crankcase?
![]() 12/26/2016 at 12:43 |
|
the traditional block heater installs in a freeze plug and warms the block/coolant/oil in it’s vicinity. mine is a glue on to the pan one, probably doesn’t heat more than the oil.
